Jason Shepherd’s Chairman’s Corner for Oct. 26, 2020

In last week’s Chairman’s Corner, I highlighted the passing of one of our great Cobb GOP volunteers. Sadly, once again because of cancer, I am highlighting another.

Phyllis Slaght (December 27, 1943 – October 23, 2020) passed away Friday after her long battle with cancer.

Phyllis was a long time member of the Georgia GOP, Cobb GOP, Fulton GOP, the Georgia Republican Assembly, and Cobb County Republican Women’s Club, as well as serving as TM01 Precinct Chair.  She also served as a co-Chair of the Cobb County Republican Party’s annual July 4 BBQ heading up record breaking fundraising years for that event.

In 2015-2016, Phyllis was a key leader in the Presidential primary supporting Donald Trump and when he won, she led the volunteer team at the Trump Campaign office in Sandy Springs.

That 4th of July, she worked tirelessly on the Trump float for the Marietta Parade and secured sponsors for the lunch event that followed.

You can just see Phyllis’ grinning face, and pointing her finger at you saying, “Let me tell you something. Live each day like it is your last. God is good.”

Phyllis had more energy and more determination than an entire brigade of Young Republicans. She was always congenial and no task was too mundane to promote liberty and conservative causes in our state and the nation. She was a generous friend to many. Noted for never complaining about what might be hurting her, Phyllis was always a valiant warrior.

This was a prayer that she wrote August 15, 2020, and seems to be the words that she would like us to keep near to our hearts.

“I pray health, joy, peace and victory are yours. I pray for rest and supernatural strength. I pray that every seed you sow into the message of hope, God multiplies it back to you in amazing ways. I believe and declare your best days are not behind you, but ahead of you. Your latter days will be greater than your former days. And everything God has put in your heart will come to pass. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!”

Please look for another post about a Celebration of Life, being planned after the election.
Yours in Freedom,
